Jew murdered and another two injured in terror attack near Dolev

As we prepared this update of the recent activities of the Israel Dog Unit to fight terror in Israel and to aid in the search of missing people with the use of specially trained canines, we learned of the tragic news of yet another fatal attack in Israel that has flashed over the wire:
Three Jewish hikers were seriously wounded by a remotely detonated bomb at a popular water spring near Dolev. The terror attack happened around 10:15 AM on Friday.

As we told the many who have called us requesting security dogs in wake of the recent attack: “The I.D.U. – Israel Dog Unit vows to continue to step up activities to provide more security dogs to aid in the battle against Arab terrorism in Israel. Any family or “settlement” security team who seek additional means to protect themselves and their communities can request to join our canine security program and apply to receive a security dog and training in the proper maintenance and operation of a patrol dog”***

In Friday's attack, Paramedics arrived on the scene and promptly treated the three seriously wounded people:  Rabbi Eitan Shnerb (Shenrav) from Lod, age 46, now listed in moderate condition, stable and conscious; his son Dvir, 19, who is listed as seriously wounded with stomach and body wounds. He is unconscious and on a respirator.
His daughter Rina Shnerb HY”D, age 17, was in critical condition and underwent resuscitation efforts in the field, but has died from her wounds. The cemetery is being held in Lod Cemetery Friday.
Our condolences to the bereaved family and our prayers for a speedy recovery toRabbi Eitan and to his son Dvir, who remain in critical condition.

IDU AID IN terror-murder INVESTIGATION OF Dvir Sorek HY”D
Yeshiva student/soldier Dvir Sorek was brutally stabbed to death Aug 7, 19. His body was found outside of the back gate to Kibbutz Migdal Oz, in Gush Etzyon.  His grandfather, Rabbi Binyamin Herling was also murdered by Arab terrorists 19 years ago.

IDU rushed to the scene with highly trained cadaver dogs to aid authorities in the recovery of evidence to help solve the case and apprehend the terrorists responsible for the heinous crime.

Security forces proceeded to conduct an investigation of his murder but shortly after hit a dead end. The IDU was able to send Danna and Milo, two of the finest cadaver dogs in the possession of the unit to help gather evidence.

As we reported in our last update earlier this month: Two months before the murder of Dvir HY”D, The security Chief of Migdal Oz canceled his request made to I.D.U.  for a security patrol/tracking dog, due to lack of funds to maintain the service dog.

Shahab news agency, affiliated with Hamas published tweets comparing the murdered soldier Dvir Shurik to the lamb (offering) in the path of the resistance (this week’s holiday Eid-al-adha).
"Allah has given us power over animals and has permitted us to eat meat but only if we pronounce his name during the solemn act of taking life,” a description of the merry Muslim holiday of Eid Al Adcha. YM”S.

IDU on scene for Gush Etzion car-ramming terror attack

Friday, August 16th, the Israel Dog Unit was making its way with a few dogs and volunteers to do some training in the Gush Etzion area, when suddenly traffic came to a standstill not too far from the IDU’s van, traveling across from Elazaar. It was brought to the attention of the IDU that there was a car-ramming terror attack, injuring siblings Nahum Navis and his sister Noam Navis, as well as a reported 3rd victim who allegedly ran off into a nearby field, not even 100 meters from where the IDU van stood. The IDU, with 4 service dogs at the ready, was prepared to assist in the search for the reported 3rd victim who was originally thought missing.

Missing: Andy Yurovitz (found, alive and safe)
Never a dull moment in the IDU mobile emergency response team van; Friday afternoon, August 16th immediately following the ramming terror attack near Elazaar, the IDU was called to another nearby emergency;  Mr. Andy Yurovitz, an 83 year old gentleman with Alzheimer’s disease had gone missing. Baruch Hashem, Andy was found soon after.

One emergency chases another emergency literally – with the IDU on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week!
Monday morning while in training near Horashim forest, the Chief of Operations from the Ashdod police precinct called us in to aid in a high risk search for 33 year old Ariella Peres. She was found alive and well shortly after we arrived.

Immediately following the completion of the aforementioned anti-agricultural-terror exercise, despite having worked several days, almost non-stop, Ashdod police again called us in to aid in the search for two high risk missing people who were both later found alive and safe pictured below.

Big search day designated for this coming Thursday to find Eli Illovitz
Thursday Aug 29, IDU will be running yet another search to day find Eli Illovitz, father of five whose home burnt down in the Mevo Modiim tragedy, who was last seen near the forest of Meron, before LagBa’Omer. Please help forward picture shown below.

Kill the Jews like sheep in honor of Muslim holiday, urges Hamas, after murder of Jew..IDU Update

Yeshiva student/IDF soldier – brutally murdered – found dead near Migdal Oz, Gush Etzyon. Migdal Oz Security Chief previously requested security dog from IDU, but canceled request.
Yeshiva student/soldier Dvir Shurik was brutally stabbed to death last night Aug 7, 19. His body was found outside of the back gate to Kibbutz Migdal Oz, in Gush Etzyon.  His grandfather, Rabbi Binyamin Herling was also murdered by Arab terrorists 19 years ago.

Two months ago, The security Chief of Migdal Oz canceled his request made to I.D.U.  for a security patrol/tracking dog, due to lack of funds to maintain the service dog.

Matan Nefesh, the Chief of Security: “Mike I am sorry I did not have a dog, last night. By mere chance I walked several yards away from where Dvir was laying hours before he was found. Surely, if I had a dog, the dog would have indicated and led me to the body. For all I know he was still alive. However, at the time we had no idea that there was a missing person. The report only came in hours later, only after he was reported missing.” Was he still alive? Was there critical time lost? Was evidence discarded? Could there have been a much more effective pursuit which could have been started hours earlier?
I responded, “We are there for you and we are still prepared to give you a service dog worth 20,000 shekels for free and free training, despite our own difficult financial situation. The dog could be your partner, patrol with you and protect you as well as to help track terrorists in such cases.”

YM”S.

I.D.U. participated in a major exercise to track down “agricultural terrorists”
It is no secret that Arabs have been terrorizing Israeli farmers by waging what has been referred to by the Israeli Press as “a war of agricultural terror” against farms throughout Israel. The Jordan Valley has been hit particularly hard with the theft of millions of dollars-worth of livestock and equipment and with the torching of fields and trees in arson attacks.
The I.D.U. offers dogs and training to young farmers who have organized a network of emergency response tracking teams known as “Kochot-Mirdaf” with branches throughout Judea, Samaria and the Jordan Valley.

Wednesday, August 7th  the I.D.U. participated in a training exercise with the “Kochot Mirdaf” simulating an attack on Jewish shepherds and the theft of their flock. We helped to successfully track down the “thieves” to retrieve and return the flock to their rightful owners and to bring the “terrorists” to justice.
It is relevant to note that this exercise was a simulation of a real incident which occurred several weeks ago in Eshtamoa, near the Judean desert, in which the “Kochot-Mirdaf” successfully saved the lives of two Jewish shepherds, found the culprits who ran away, had them arrested, and returned the flock to the shepherds who had been injured in the attack. The “Kochot-Mirdaf” had been on an exercise in the area at the time.
Big week for Muslim “agricultural terror” perpetrations; exercise and patrols to deter and catch the terrorists responsible
In view of the fact that this week marks a significant Muslim holiday, Eid al-Adha, which is celebrated by the slaughtering and consumption of sheep, many of which are stolen from local Jewish farmers, this exercise is particularly significant. The exercise contributes not only to deterrence but allows for the I.D.U. and “Kochot-Mirdaf” to swiftly respond to potential terrorist incidents in the region.

Additional dorms and kennels to house the new volunteers and service dogs that are due to arrive shortly.

I.D.U. plays a role in the breakthrough in murder case of Nava Elimelech, the 12 old girl abducted and brutally murdered 37 years ago
In respect of the gag order placed on the Nava Elimelech case, little can be revealed at this time about the new developments in the case. We will suffice to say that I.D.U. experts played a role in the reopening of the case and in offering new insights into the case. Nava Elimelech was 12 years old when she was abducted and brutally murdered 37 years ago. The decapitated and dismembered parts of her body were found in plastic bags after they washed ashore on Tel Aviv beaches, 9 days after her disappearance. Little can be shared at this time about the horrific murder that shattered not only the Almaliach family, but an entire nation back in 1982.

Nava was one of 22 unsolved cases that the I.D.U. had been actively investigating. The picture and story of 21 additional cases of missing people are still prominently displayed on the I.D.U. dining hall, and the unit continues to investigate and conduct searches hoping to resolve the remaining cases, some of which appear to have been terror-related.

I.D.U. participated in a major exercise of the police search and rescue units overseen by the Shomron and Jordan Valley Police SAR unit and joined by branches of Police SAR units from across the country
Ironically it is none other than the I.D.U. that is called out to participate in police training exercises, and not police dogs and their handlers.
The unique exercise which was held last Thursday and Friday in the Shomron and in the Jordan Valley was planned out for months by the Shomron-Jordan Valley Police SAR Unit and joined by their SAR branches from across the country.

Our dogs and handlers helped find the missing decoy, who had fallen in to a pit.
Teddy, one of our dogs was slightly injured in the exercise, and has since recuperated.

I.D.U. helped run the Command Center at high-profile search for elderly man found dead in Kfar Saba
Last Wednesday-Thursday night the I.D.U. helped manage the search for Nissim Nachshon, an elderly man in Kfar Saba. Unfortunately the man was found dead in an open area, near the local country club, after more than 36 hours of searching for him.

I.D.U. dispatches another security dog to Shedmot Mechola, in Jordan Valley
Sat. night an additional security patrol dog, Alpha, has been dispatched to Elyashiv where he patrols and guards the fields and orchards near Shedmot Mechola, along with Rex and Asher who have been active in securing the orchards for the past 5 years.

Memorial for Shlomo Rindenow HY''D, on the 3rd anniversary of his death

Memorial for Shlomo Rindenow HY''D, on the 3rd anniversary of his death

The I.D.U. paid their respects to Shlomo Rindenow, HY”D (July 14th) who was killed 3 years ago in the line of his military service in the Golan Heights. Shlomo had made Aliya from New Jersey, joined the Israel Dog Unit I.D.U.  for a tour of duty for several months and then joined the IDF as a lone soldier.(Pictured below)

SAR pups get their first exposure to site of collapsed buildings - simulated earthquake site

Video of rubble-site training shows how we commence training with pups at three months old on a site specially designed by the IDF to simulate fallout of earthquakes, or collapsed buildings due to rocket attacks, G-d forbid:
The pups are exposed to the site and learn to indicate where there are people trapped under the rubble who await rescue.
                                                                      Earthquake Predicted
Scientists predict that Israel is due for a major earthquake in the near future (Israel experiences a major quake approximately every 95 years). If such a quake would hit Israel, along the Syrian-African fault line, with the intensity of the last major quake, 400,000 buildings could collapse leaving an estimated 15,000 people dead or trapped alive under the rubble.
We must prepare for such a possibility and train many more SAR dogs and handlers. One need not wait to catch a pneumonia to buy an umbrella (reference to a Max Nordau quote brought down by Zev Jabotinsky in his speeches and in his book – Story of The Jewish Legion, who asked why Jews were not more pro-active to save themselves from obvious future threats and calamities, and why do they always seem to wait until disaster arrives to begin to deal with problems that should have been foreseen long ago?)
Indeed one need not wait until an earthquake hits Israel or until hundreds if not thousands of buildings collapse due to Hizbullah rocket attacks in the next war. He who is smart sees the future. Especially when the obvious fallout so prominently steers us right in the face. He who cooks for Shabbat, eats on Shabbat. He who supports the Israel Dog Unit today, saves many lives today and in the future.
The Jewish People don’t only have to be the best at responding. In fact, I’m sick and tired of unnecessary death caused by the mindset of ignoring prevention and sufficing for cleaning up a mess that should never have occurred. This is equally true when it comes to training and readying ourselves with SAR dogs as well as security dogs to patrol Jewish towns and to keep the terrorists out of the “settlements”. I don’t want to downplay the importance of those who engage in this holy work, after the the tragedy hits so as to minimize the negative effects of the damage after the fact, but let us be smart and to prevent the damage in advance, to the best of our ability.

New Yeshuvim and Kibbutzim join the IDU security canine program

New Yishuvim and Kibbutzim join IDU security canine program
Chief of security of Kibbutz Sdeh Eliyahu in Jordan Valley joins program. See photo below:

We now have patrol dogs in the following Jordan Valley yishuvim/moshavim/kibbutzim: Mechola, Shedmot Mechola, Tomer, Netiv Hagedud, Kochav Hashachar, Machane Gadi – LIAL pre-military Academy, Balladim, Sde Eliyahu and Maskiyot.
In the Gush Etzyon bloc, five new dog handlers from Efrat adopted pups and have commenced training with Micha Katz, the director of IDU in Efrat-Gush Etzyon, see photo below:
---------------------
Members of the “koach mirdaf” who pursue thieves and terrorists who engage in agricultural terror have commenced training with security/tracking dogs that they have received from the IDU.
                                                        --------------------
Deputy Chief of security of the Barkan Industrial Area also joined IDU training this week, pictured below:

Barkan suffered multiple attacks over the past year. Unfortunately, they had no tracking or patrol dogs back then.

(On the morning of 7 October 2018, a “Palestinian” gunman opened fire on several Israelis in the Barkan Industrial Park, killing two Israelis - Kim Levengrond Yechezkel, Hy”d, and Ziv Hajabi, Hy”d  and critically injuring another.)

This brings the total number of security patrol or tracking dogs in the IDU security division to 72. An additional 350 guard dogs have also been placed joining more than 30 Search and Rescue Dogs.

The Israel Dog Unit urgently needs to expand Tapuach Campus to facilitate arrival of new service dogs and to welcome additional volunteers

The Israel Dog Unit urgently needs to expand Tapuach Campus to facilitate arrival of new service dogs and to welcome additional volunteers

Phones at the I.D.U. headquarters are ringing off-the-hook with SAR and security emergencies, where our service dogs and handlers are desperately needed to save lives. More calls for help, means more dogs and handlers are needed. This means more kennels and more dorm space needs to be constructed, and everything else that comes along with that.

Kennel construction near completion. Work frozen due to lack of funds.

We do not have the luxury to say "no" to those who call out for our life-saving services when they beseech us to rush to their aid with specially trained security or SAR dogs. It could very well mean the difference between life and death for a missing person or for an entire family who live on a yishuv that has been infiltrated by a blood-thirsty Arab terrorist who seeks to murder innocent men, women and children.

It is of paramount importance that a well-trained dog with a professional dog-handler be dispatched to the scene as quickly as possible.

Help us complete the building of additional kennels and additional dorms to house our noble volunteers. We have frozen construction due to lack of funds, however, we desperately must continue - so that we can house the new dogs and volunteers who will be arriving shortly.
